Last Sunday we took the car ferry across the bay to the town of Russell with friends Linda and David, s/v Toketie. Russell is a quaint seaside town with lots of historical significance here in New Zealand.
The tiny Anglican Church, built in 1836, is the oldest
church in New Zealand. We walked through the church graveyard and into the
church. All of the wooden pews are lined with one-of-a-kind handmade pillows to
ensure comfy bums during the sermon.
On the way back to the ferry we stopped in at Omata Winery for a bit of wine tasting. The wines were ok - not great - and a little out of our price range, but the scenery was worth the visit.
We really enjoyed our little road trip and look forward to returning to Russell another sunnier day to explore further and take some better pictures.
