We left Musket Cove yesterday morning and motor-sailed for 6 hours into windy, lumpy seas to get to Waya. The bay at Yolobi was wide and beautiful and our friends Jan & Dave on Baraka were the only sailboat anchored there. The rain held off until about an hour after we anchored so we didn't go ashore to the village. We had dinner aboard Baraka (Jan's famous pizza!) then settled down for a quiet night's sleep.
We woke this morning to more overcast skies but decided to head for the island of Naviti, so unfortunately we did not go ashore to meet the people in the village at Yalobi.
Jan and Dave had gone ashore here and told us that the village currently has no chief. Dave did sevu sevu with the current temporary head of the village then they were free to roam around the village. The main school for the island is here and there are over 100 kids that attend and live in dorms here during the week. Several of them travel overland from the other side of the island and others come by boat, only to go home on weekends.
We think we will try to stop here again in a few weeks when we're on our way back to Musket Cove to check it all out for ourselves.
Hi,
We are at Denaro waiting for spare parts of the watermaker. Next week we should be in the yasawa group and join you.
